Biking for Charity is Gaining in Popularity

Summer arrives and charities are looking for new ways to raise much needed funds. Biking invitationals are gaining in popularity. Golf outings are on the way out. They are expensive to put on, take a great deal to carry off and hard to build a participants list.

It makes sense that biking invitationals are gaining steam. The cycling community is committed to the sport and always looking for rides to get more time on the road. We also tend to be a highly plugged in to social causes. And we all are trying to get and stay healthy. Continue reading

Spotlight on…Tom Gaydos

Meet Tom Gaydos!  Its appropriate to focus this Chain Letter Member Spotlight on Tom. He became a member of the Akron Bicycle Club in its early days. As ride chairman at the time he needed a way to relay the ride schedule to the members. This was in the days of no website or email. Roscoe Ramble XXXVII Sure to Be a Sell Out

Hardy riders from as many as five states converge on Canal Fulton (long route) and Kidron (short route) the weekend of August 14 far, far away from the “mad” crowd pedaling to the point. These riders look forward to the challenge of two courses designed for the experienced cyclist and the hospitality of the local communities.

Roscoe Ramble XXXVII winds its way through rolling farmland to Roscoe Village, a restored Ohio Canal village. Riders will stay in nearby Coshocton and return to Canal Fulton or Kidron on Sunday, August 15.  The lunch stop is at an Amish farm featuring several home-made items. The Sunday return route follows the Holmes County Bike Trail (paved) with an option to ride a road route instead. Continue reading

Akron Bicycle Club has offered the Absolutely Beautiful Country Ride to Ohio’s cycling community for 35 years. This signature ride continued to be an area favorite with multiple routes chosen for level of difficulty and scenic vistas of farms, thoroughbreds and miles of fields. Riders were encouraged to relax in small towns along the routes to re-energize for the next big push. Continue reading
