An old tradition was brought back! The Friday after the Absolutely Beautiful Country Ride used to be the night when ABC club members would get together to rehash the thrills of the ABC Ride, compare tales of the ride season and make plans for the rest of the year. This year it returned with style. Hosted by Kay Leckrone with the assistance of her other half, Paul Ferguson and ABC Club member, Bob Iden, this year’s picnic went off without a hitch. A perfect summer evening in an idyllic setting, the Wadsworth Shelter of the Sand Run Metropark brought out a nice crowd.
Some volunteers from the ABC Ride were missing as they took the first stop sign out of town for as long a weekend as possible after a demanding previous two weeks. But a handful made the trek to the park to join in the food and fun.
This was the first year for ABC Club members to receive a discount for registering for the ride. It was also the first year that we really beefed up promotion on our Facebook fan page. Whatever the reason, we were happy to see some new members joining us to meet other club members. New faces are always a blast.
Fellow ABC club Directors, Mark Erzen and Jim Bowker were on hand to welcome new members as well as ride leaders, Randy Austin, Sue Serdinak and Bill Greathouse. They were able to share stories about the club and promote their rides with the new members. Sue was also able to bring all of us up to date on the progress of the soon to come Sweet Corn Challenge.

The food was up to the ABC standards, the company was as always delightful, and the evening was a hit. We look forward to next year’s picnic and the future ABC get togethers.
